The Holidays Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB CDAD EFGF GHEH AIJI KLEL EMNM

Ah don't you remember 'tis almost DecemberA
And soon will the holidays comeB
Oh 'twill be so funny I've plenty of moneyC
I'll buy me a sword and a drumB
-
Thus said little Harry unwilling to tarryC
Impatient from school to departD
But we shall discover this holiday loverA
Knew little what was in his heartD
-
For when on returning he gave up his learningE
Away from his sums and his booksF
Though playthings surrounded and sweetmeats aboundedG
Chagrin still appear'd in his looksF
-
Though first they delighted his toys were now slightedG
And thrown away out of his sightH
He spent every morning in stretching and yawningE
Yet went to bed weary at nightH
-
He had not that treasure which really makes pleasureA
A secret discover'd by fewI
You'll take it for granted more playthings he wantedJ
Oh naught was something to doI
-
We must have employment to give us enjoymentK
And pass the time cheerfully awayL
And study and reading give pleasure exceedingE
The pleasures of toys and of playL
-
To school now returning to study and learningE
With eagerness Harry appliedM
He felt no aversion to books or exertionN
Nor yet for the holidays sigh'dM
