The rain disappoints us to day | H |
But sorrow still more that you fret for a ride | G |
In such an extravagant way | H |

These slight disappointments are sent to prepare | I |
For what may hereafter befall | J |
For seasons of real disappointment and care | I |
Which commonly happen to all | J |

For just like to day with its holiday lost | K |
Is life and its comforts at best | L |
Our pleasures are blighted our purposes cross'd | K |
To teach us it is not our rest | L |

And when those distresses and crosses appear | M |

On merely the loss of a ride | G |

But though the world's pleasures are fleeting and vain | C |
