I think I want some pies this morningA
Said Dick stretching himself and yawningA
So down he threw his slate and booksB
And saunter'd to the pastry cook'sB
-
And there he cast his greedy eyesC
Round on the jellies and the piesC
So to select with anxious careD
The very nicest that was thereD
-
At last the point was thus decidedE
As his opinion was dividedF
'Twixt pie and jelly being lothG
Either to leave he took them bothH
-
Now Richard never could be pleasedI
To stop when hunger was appeasedI
But would go on to eat still moreJ
When he had had an ample storeJ
-
No not another now said DickK
Dear me I feel extremely sickK
I cannot even eat this bitL
I wish I had not tasted itL
-
Then slowing rising from his seatM
He threw his cheesecake in the streetM
And left the tempting pastry cook'sB
With very discontented looksB
-
Just then a man with wooden legN
Met Dick and held his hat to begN
And while he told his mournful caseO
Look'd at him with imploring faceO
-
Dick wishing to relieve his painP
His pockets search'd but search'd in vainP
And so at last he did declareD
He had not left a farthing thereD
-
The beggar turn'd with face of griefQ
And look of patient unbeliefQ
While Richard now his folly blamedR
And felt both sorry and ashamedR
-
I wish said he but wishing's vainP
I had my money back againS
And had not spent my last to payT
For what I only threw awayT
-
Another time I'll take adviceU
And not buy things because they're niceU
But rather save my little storeJ
To give to those who want it moreJ
