Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EFGH IIJJ KKLL MMBB NNOO PPDD QQRR PSTT UUJJI think I want some pies this morning | A |
Said Dick stretching himself and yawning | A |
So down he threw his slate and books | B |
And saunter'd to the pastry cook's | B |
- | |
And there he cast his greedy eyes | C |
Round on the jellies and the pies | C |
So to select with anxious care | D |
The very nicest that was there | D |
- | |
At last the point was thus decided | E |
As his opinion was divided | F |
'Twixt pie and jelly being loth | G |
Either to leave he took them both | H |
- | |
Now Richard never could be pleased | I |
To stop when hunger was appeased | I |
But would go on to eat still more | J |
When he had had an ample store | J |
- | |
No not another now said Dick | K |
Dear me I feel extremely sick | K |
I cannot even eat this bit | L |
I wish I had not tasted it | L |
- | |
Then slowing rising from his seat | M |
He threw his cheesecake in the street | M |
And left the tempting pastry cook's | B |
With very discontented looks | B |
- | |
Just then a man with wooden leg | N |
Met Dick and held his hat to beg | N |
And while he told his mournful case | O |
Look'd at him with imploring face | O |
- | |
Dick wishing to relieve his pain | P |
His pockets search'd but search'd in vain | P |
And so at last he did declare | D |
He had not left a farthing there | D |
- | |
The beggar turn'd with face of grief | Q |
And look of patient unbelief | Q |
While Richard now his folly blamed | R |
And felt both sorry and ashamed | R |
- | |
I wish said he but wishing's vain | P |
I had my money back again | S |
And had not spent my last to pay | T |
For what I only threw away | T |
- | |
Another time I'll take advice | U |
And not buy things because they're nice | U |
But rather save my little store | J |
To give to those who want it more | J |
