Finery Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF GGHH AAIIIn an elegant frock trimm'd with beautiful lace | A |
And hair nicely curl'd hanging over her face | A |
Young Fanny went out to the house of a friend | B |
With a large little party the evening to spend | B |
- | |
Ah how they will all be delighted I guess | C |
And stare with surprise at my handsome new dress | C |
Thus said the vain girl and her little heart beat | D |
Impatient the happy young party to meet | D |
- | |
But alas they were all too intent on their play | E |
To observe the fine clothes of this lady so gay | E |
And thus all her trouble quite lost its design | F |
For they saw she was proud but forgot she was fine | F |
- | |
'Twas Lucy though only in simple white clad | G |
Nor trimmings nor laces nor jewels she had | G |
Whose cheerful good nature delighted them more | H |
Than Fanny and all the fine garments she wore | H |
- | |
'Tis better to have a sweet smile on one's face | A |
Than to wear a fine frock with an elegant lace | A |
For the good natured girl is loved best in the main | I |
If her dress is but decent though ever so plain | I |
