Who would beB
A merman gayC
Singing aloneD
Sitting aloneD
With a mermaid's kneeB
For instance heyC
For a throneD

-
I would be a merman gayC
I would sit and sing the whole day longE
I would fill my lungs with the strongest brineF
And squirt it up in a spray of songE
And soak my head in my liquid voiceG
I'd curl my tail in curves divineF
And let each curve in a kink rejoiceG
I'd tackle the mermaids under the seaB
And yank 'em around till they yanked meB
Sportively sportivelyH
And then we would wiggle away awayC
To the pea green groves on the coast of dayC
Chasing each other sportivelyH

-
There would be neither moon nor starI
But the waves would twang like a wet guitarI
Low thunder and thrum in the darkness grumJ
Neither moon nor starI
We would shriek aloud in the dismal dalesK
Shriek at each other and squawk and squealH
All night rakishly rakishlyH
They would pelt me with oysters and wiggletailsK
Laughing and clapping their hands at meB
All night prankishly prankishlyH
But I would toss them back in mineF
Lobsters and turtles of quaint designF
Then leaping out in an abrupt wayC
I'd snatch them bald in my devilish gleeH
And skip away when they snatched at meH
Fiendishly fiendishlyH
O what a jolly life I'd leadL
Ah what a bang up life indeedM
Soft are the mermaids under the seaH
We would live merrily merrilyH
