O God! Thou Art My God Alone; Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGFG HIHI JKJK LMLN

O God Thou art my God aloneA
Early to Thee my soul shall cryB
A pilgrim in a land unknownA
A thirsty land whose springs are dryB
-
O that it were as it hath beenC
When praying in the holy placeD
Thy power and glory I have seenE
And marked the footsteps of thy graceD
-
Yet through this rough and thorny mazeF
I follow hard on Thee my GodG
Thy hand unseen upholds my waysF
I safely tread where Thou hast trodG
-
Thee in the watches of the nightH
When I remember on my bedI
Thy presence makes the darkness lightH
Thy guardian wings are round my headI
-
Better than life itself thy loveJ
Dearer than all beside to meK
For whom have I in heaven aboveJ
Or what on earth compared with TheeK
-
Praise with my heart my mind my voiceL
For all thy mercy I will giveM
My soul shall still in God rejoiceL
My tongue shall bless Thee while I liveN
