Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKLWhat secret hand at morning light | A |
By stealth unseals mine eye | B |
Draws back the curtain of the night | A |
And opens earth and sky | B |
- | |
'Tis Thine my God the same that kept | C |
My resting hours from harm | D |
No ill came nigh me for I slept | C |
Beneath th' Almighty's arm | D |
- | |
'Tis Thine my daily bread that brings | E |
Like manna scatter'd round | F |
And clothes me as the lily springs | E |
In beauty from the ground | F |
- | |
This is the hand that shaped my frame | G |
And gave me pulse to beat | H |
That bears me oft through flood and flame | G |
Through tempest cold and heat | H |
- | |
In death's dark valley though I stray | I |
'Twould there my steps attend | J |
Guide with the staff my lonely way | I |
And with the rod defend | J |
- | |
May that dear hand uphold me still | K |
Through life's uncertain race | L |
To bring me to Thine holy hill | K |
And to Thy dwelling place | L |
