In The Hour Of Trial Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDA EEAA DDFF

In the hour of trial Jesus plead for meA
Lest by base denial I depart from TheeA
When Thou seest me waver with a look recallB
Nor for fear or favor suffer me to fallB
-
With forbidden pleasures would this vain world charmC
Or its sordid treasures spread to work me harmC
Bring to my remembrance sad GethsemaneD
Or in darker semblance cross crowned CalvaryA
-
Should Thy mercy send me sorrow toil and woeE
Or should pain attend me on my path belowE
Grant that I may never fail Thy hand to seeA
Grant that I may ever cast my care on TheeA
-
When my last hour cometh fraught with strife and painD
When my dust returneth to the dust againD
On Thy truth relying through that mortal strifeF
Jesus take me dying to eternal lifeF
