Sad I am sad indeed nor small myA
cause of woe Kirmor thou hastB
lost no son thou hast lost no daughterC
of beauty Connar the valiant livesD
and Annir the fairest of maids TheE
boughs of thy family flourish O KirmorC
but Armyn is the last of hisF
raceG
-
Rise winds of autumn rise blowH
upon the dark heath streams of theE
mountains roar howl ye tempestsG
in the trees walk through brokenI
clouds O moon show by intervals thyA
pale face bring to my mind that sadJ
night when all my children fell whenK
Arindel the mighty fell when DauraC
the lovely diedL
-
Daura my daughter thou wertM
fair fair as the moon on the hills ofN
Jura white as the driven snow sweet asG
the breathing gale Armor renowned inO
war came and fought Daura's love heP
was not long denied fair was the hopeQ
of their friendsG
-
Earch son of Odgal repined forC
his brother was slain by Armor HeP
came disguised like a son of the seaP
fair was his skiff on the wave whiteR
his locks of age calm his serious browC
Fairest of women he said lovely daughterC
of Armyn a rock not distant inO
the sea bears a tree on its side redS
shines the fruit afar There ArmorC
waiteth for Daura I came to fetchT
his love Come fair daughter of ArmynO
-
She went and she called on ArmorC
Nought answered but the son of theE
rock Armor my love my loveN
why tormentest thou me with fearC
come graceful son of Arduart comeU
it is Daura who calleth thee EarchT
the traitor fled laughing to the landV
She lifted up her voice and cried forC
her brother and her father ArindelH
Armyn none to relieve your DauraC
-
Her voice came over the sea ArindelH
my son descended from the hillH
rough in the spoils of the chace HisG
arrows rattled by his side his bow wasG
in his hand five grey dogs attendedW
his steps He saw fierce Earch on theE
shore he seized and bound him to anO
oak Thick fly the thongs of the hideL
around his limbs he loads the windX
with his groansG
-
Arindel ascends the surgy deep inO
his boat to bring Daura to the landV
Armor came in his wrath and let flyH
the grey feathered shaft It sung itY
sunk in thy heart O Arindel my sonO
for Earch the traitor thou diedst WhatZ
is thy grief O Daura when roundA2
thy feet is poured thy brother's bloodW
-
The boat is broken in twain by theE
waves Armor plunges into the sea toB2
rescue his Daura or die Sudden a blastB
from the hill comes over the wavesG
He sunk and he rose no moreC
-
Alone on the sea beat rock myH
daughter was heard to complain FrequentC2
and loud were her cries norC
could her father relieve her AllH
night I stood on the shore All night IH
heard her cries Loud was the windX
and the rain beat hard on the side of theE
mountain Before morning appearedD2
her voice was weak It died away likeE2
the evening breeze among the grass ofN
the rocks Spent with grief she expiredF2
O lay me soon by her sideL
-
When the storms of the mountainO
come when the north lifts the wavesG
on high I sit by the sounding shoreC
and look on the fatal rock Often byH
the setting moon I see the ghosts ofN
my children Indistinct they walk inO
mournful conference together WillH
none of you speak to me But theyG2
do not regard their fatherC
