Rhyme Scheme: AAABCDEAF GAHIGJK LMNEODPOQROS OTADUMVWFAFEXO YZAA2B2

Evening is grey on the hills TheA
north wind resounds through theA
woods White clouds rise on the sky theA
trembling snow descends The river howlsB
afar along its winding course SadC
by a hollow rock the grey hair'd CarrylD
sat Dry fern waves over his head hisE
seat is in an aged birch Clear to theA
roaring winds he lifts his voice of woeF
-
Tossed on the wavy ocean is HeG
the hope of the isles Malcolm theA
support of the poor foe to the proudH
in arms Why hast thou left us behindI
why live we to mourn thy fate WeG
might have heard with thee the voiceJ
of the deep have seen the oozy rockK
-
Sad on the sea beat shore thy spouseL
looketh for thy return The time ofM
thy promise is come the night is gatheringN
around But no white sail isE
on the sea no voice is heard exceptO
the blustering winds Low is the soulD
of the war Wet are the locks of youthP
By the foot of some rock thou liestO
washed by the waves as they comeQ
Why ye winds did ye bear him onR
the desert rock Why ye waves didO
ye roll over himS
-
But Oh what voice is thatO
Who rides on that meteor of fire GreenT
are his airy limbs It is he it is theA
ghost of Malcolm Rest lovely soulD
rest on the rock and let me hear thyU
voice He is gone like a dream ofM
the night I see him through the treesV
Daughter of Reynold he is goneW
Thy spouse shall return no more NoF
more shall his hounds come from theA
hill forerunners of their master NoF
more from the distant rock shall hisE
voice greet thine ear Silent is he inX
the deep unhappy daughter of ReynoldO
-
I will sit by the stream of the plainY
Ye rocks hang over my head HearZ
my voice ye trees as ye bend on theA
shaggy hill My voice shall preserveA2
the praise of him the hope of the islesB2
