VINVELAA

My love is a son of the hillA
He pursues the flying deerB
His grey dogs are pantingC
around him his bow string sounds inD
the wind Whether by the fount ofE
the rock or by the stream of theF
mountain thou liest when the rushes areG
nodding with the wind and the mistH
is flying over thee let me approachI
my love unperceived and see himJ
from the rock Lovely I saw theeK
first by the aged oak thou wert returningC
tall from the chace the fairestH
among thy friendsL

What voice is that I hear thatM
voice like the summer wind I sitN

the fount of the rock Afar VinvelaA
afar I go to the wars of Fingal MyP
dogs attend me no more No moreQ
I tread the hill No more from onR
high I see thee fair moving by theF
stream of the plain bright as theF
bow of heaven as the moon on theF
western waveS

Then thou art gone O ShilricC
and I am alone on the hill TheF
deer are seen on the brow void ofE
fear they graze along No more theyT
dread the wind no more the rustlingC
tree The hunter is far removedU
he is in the field of graves StrangersV
sons of the waves spare myP

If fall I must in the field raise highP
my grave Vinvela Grey stones andW
heaped up earth shall murk me to futureX
times When the hunter shall sit byP
the mound and produce his food atM

will say and my fame shall live in hisY
praise Remember me Vinvela whenZ
low on earth I lieP

Yes I will remember thee indeedA2
my Shilric will fall What shall I doB2
my love when thou art gone for everX
Through these hills I will go at noon OC2
will go through the silent heath ThereD2
I will see where often thou sattest returningC
from the chace Indeed my ShilricC
will fall but I will rememberX
himJ
