Robin Hood is an outlaw boldA
Under the greenwood treeB
Bird nor stag nor morning airC
Is more at large than heB
-
They sent against him twenty menD
Who joined him laughing eyedE
They sent against him thirty moreF
And they remained besideE
-
All the stoutest of the trainG
That grew in Gamelyn woodH
Whether they came with these or notI
Are now with Robin HoodH
-
And not a soul in Locksley townJ
Would speak him an ill wordK
The friars raged but no man's tongueL
Nor even feature stirredK
-
Except among a very fewM
Who dined in the Abbey hallsN
And then with a sigh bold Robin knewM
His true friends from his falseO
-
There was Roger the monk that used to makeP
All monkery his gleeB
And Midge on whom Robin had never turnedQ
His face but tenderlyB
-
With one or two they say besidesR
Lord that in this life's dreamS
Men should abandon one true thingT
That would abide with themU
-
We cannot bid our strength remainG
Our cheeks continue roundV
We cannot say to an aged backW
Stoop not towards the groundV
-
We cannot bid our dim eyes seeB
Things as bright as everX
Nor tell our friends though friends from youthY
That they'll forsake us neverX
-
But we can say I never willZ
Friendship fall off from theeB
And oh sound truth and old regardA2
Nothing shall part us threeB
