The Ballad Of Camden Town Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KBKB HLHL HLHL LMLM NOPO

I walked with Maisie long years backA
The streets of Camden TownB
I splendid in my suit of blackA
And she divine in brownB
-
Hers was a proud and noble faceC
A secret heart and eyesD
Like water in a lonely placeC
Beneath unclouded skiesD
-
A bed a chest a faded matE
And broken chairs a fewF
Were all we had to grace our flatE
In Hazel AvenueF
-
But I could walk to Hampstead HeathG
And crown her head with daisiesH
And watch the streaming world beneathG
And men with other MaisiesH
-
When I was ill and she was paleI
And empty stood our storeJ
She left the latchkey on its nailI
And saw me nevermoreJ
-
Perhaps she cast herself awayK
Lest both of us should drownB
Perhaps she feared to die as theyK
Who die in Camden TownB
-
What came of her The bitter nightsH
Destroy the rose and lilyL
And souls are lost among the lightsH
Of painted PiccadillyL
-
What came of her The river flowsH
So deep and wide and stillyL
And waits to catch the fallen roseH
And clasp the broken lilyL
-
I dream she dwells in London stillL
And breathes the evening airM
And often walk to Primrose HillL
And hope to meet her thereM
-
Once more together we will liveN
For I will find her yetO
I have so little to forgiveP
So much I can't forgetO
