A Legend of the geanA
-
'Who are you Sea LadyB
And where in the seas are weB
I have too long been steeringC
By the flashes in your eyesD
Why drops the moonlight through my heartE
And why so quietlyB
Go the great engines of my boatF
As if their souls were free '-
'Oh ask me not bold sailorG
Is not your ship a magic shipH
That sails without a sailI
Are not these isles the Isles of GreeceJ
And dust upon the seaB
But answer me three questionsK
And give me answers threeB
What is your ship 'A British '-
'And where may Britain be '-
'Oh it lies north dear ladyB
It is a small country '-
'Yet you will know my loverG
Though you live far awayL
And you will whisper where he has goneM
That lily boy to look uponN
And whiter than the spray '-
'How should I know your loverG
Lady of the sea '-
'Alexander AlexanderG
The King of the World was he '-
'Weep not for him dear ladyB
But come aboard my shipH
So many years ago he diedO
He's dead as dead can be '-
'O base and brutal sailorG
To lie this lie to meB
His mother was the foam footP
Star sparkling AphroditeB
His father was AdonisQ
Who lives away in LebanonR
In stony Lebanon where bloomsS
His red anemoneT
But where is AlexanderG
The soldier AlexanderG
My golden love of olden daysU
The King of the world and me '-
-
She sank into the moonlightV
And the sea was only seaB
