No Coward's Song Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED DDDD

I am afraid to think about my deathA
When it shall be and whether in great painB
I shall rise up and fight the air for breathA
Or calmly wait the bursting of my brainB
-
I am no coward who could seek in fearC
A folklore solace or sweet Indian talesD
I know dead men are deaf and cannot hearE
The singing of a thousand nightingalesD
-
I know dead men are blind and cannot seeD
The friend that shuts in horror their big eyesD
And they are witless O I'd rather beD
A living mouse than dead as a man diesD
