Destroyer Of Ships, Men, Cities Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKL MNMN

Helen of Troy has sprung from HellA
To claim her ancient throneB
So we have bidden friends farewellA
To follow her aloneB
-
The Lady of the laurelled browC
The Queen of pride and powerD
Looks rather like a phantom nowC
And rather like a flowerD
-
Deep in her eyes the lamp of nightE
Burns with a secret flameF
Where shadows pass that have no sightE
And ghosts that have no nameF
-
For mute is battle's brazen hornG
That rang for Priest and KingH
And she who drank of that brave mornG
Is pale with eveningH
-
An hour there is when bright words flowI
A little hour for sleepJ
An hour between when lights are lowI
And then she seems to weepJ
-
But no less lovely than of oldK
She shines and almost hearsL
The horns that blew in days of goldK
The shouting charioteersL
-
And still she breaks the hearts of menM
Their hearts and all their prideN
Doomed to be cruel once againM
And live dissatisfiedN
