To My Wife Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKL BMBM NONO BPBP IQIQ

Oft in the night from this lone roomA
I long to fly o er land and seaB
To pierce the dark dividing gloomA
And join myself to theeB
-
And thou to me wouldst gladly flyC
I know thee well my own true wifeD
We feel that when we live not nighC
We lose the crown of lifeD
-
Yet soon I hope at dead of nightE
To meet where all is strange besideF
And mid the train s resounding flightE
To have thee by my sideF
-
Then shall I feel that thou art nearG
Joined hand to hand and soul to soulH
Short will that happy night appearG
As through the dark we rollH
-
Then shall the secret of the willI
That dares not enter into blissJ
That longs for love yet lingers stillI
Be solved in one long kissJ
-
I drinking deep of thy rich loveK
Thou feeling all the strength of mineL
Our souls will rise in faith aboveK
The cares which make us pineL
-
Till I give thee thou giving meB
As that which either loves the bestM
To Him that loved us both that HeB
May take us to His restM
-
Wandering and weak are all our prayersN
And fleeting half the gifts we craveO
Love only cleansed from sins and caresN
Shall live beyond the graveO
-
Strengthen our love O Lord that weB
May in Thine own great love believeP
And opening all our soul to TheeB
May Thy free gift receiveP
-
All powers of mind all force of willI
May lie in dust when we are deadQ
But love is ours and shall be stillI
When earth and seas are fledQ
