Thair is a knichte rydis through the woodA
And a doughty knichte is treeB
And sure hee is on a message sentC
He rydis see hastilieD
Hee passit the aik and hee passit the birkE
And hee passit monie a treF
Bot plesant to him was the saugh sae slimG
For beneath it hee did seeB
The boniest ladye that ever he sawH
Scho was see schyn and fairI
And there scho sat beneath the saughJ
Kaiming hir gowden hairI
And then the knichte Oh ladye brichteC
What chance hes brought you hereK
But say the word and ye schall gangL
Back to your kindred dearM
Then up and spok the Ladye fairI
I have nae friends or kinN
Bot in a littel boat I liveJ
Amidst the waves loud dinN
Then answered thus the douchty knichteC
I ll follow you through allD
For gin ye bee in a littel boatC
The world to it seemis smallD
They gaed through the wood and through the woodC
To the end of the wood they cameO
And when they came to the end of the woodC
They saw the salt sea faemO
And then they saw the wee wee boatC
That daunced on the top of the waveJ
And first got in the ladye fairI
And then the knichte sae braveJ
They got into the wee wee boatC
And rowed wi a their michtC
When the knichte sae brave he turnit aboutC
And lookit at the ladye brichtC
He lookit at her bonie cheikL
And hee lookit at hir twa bricht eyneN
Bot hir rosie cheik growe ghaistly paleD
And scho seymit as scho deid had beenN
The fause fause knichte growe pale wi frichteC
And his hair rose up on endC
For gane by days cam to his myndeC
And his former luve he kennedC
Then spake the ladye Thou fause knichteC
Hast done to mee much illD
Thou didst forsake me long agoL
Bot I am constant stillD
For though I ligg in the woods sae caldC
At rest I canna beeB
Until I sucke the gude lyfe bludeC
Of the man that gart me deeC
Hee saw hir lipps were wet wi bludeC
And hee saw hir lyfelesse eyneN
And loud hee cry d Get frae my sydeC
Thou vampyr corps uncleaneN
Bot no hee is in hir magic boatC
And on the wyde wyde seaC
And the vampyr suckis his gude lyfe bludeC
Sho suckis hym till hee deeC
So now beware whoe re you areP
That walkis in this lone woodC
Beware of that deceitfull sprightC
The ghaist that suckle the bludeC
