The Cadets At New Market.[1] Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCBDB AEAEFGFHIIJJ

Their sleep is made gloriousA
And dead they're victoriousA
Over defeatB
Never Lethean billowsC
Shall roll o'er their pillowsC
Red with the feetB
Of Mars from the wine pressD
So bitterly sweetB
-
Sleeping but gloriousA
Dead in Fame's portalE
Dead but victoriousA
Dead but immortalE
They gave us great gloryF
What more could they giveG
They have left us a storyF
A story to liveH
And blaze on the brows of the State like a crownI
While from these grand mountains the rivers run downI
While grass grows in graveyards or the Ocean's deep callsJ
Their deeds and their glory shall fresco these wallsJ
