Summer Studies. Ii Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHII JKJKLL| Over the farm is brooding silence now | A |
| No reaper's song no raven's clangor harsh | B |
| No bleat of sheep no distant low of cow | A |
| No croak of frogs within the spreading marsh | B |
| No bragging cock from litter'd farm yard crows | C |
| The scene is steep'd in silence and repose | C |
| - | |
| A trembling haze hangs over all the fields | D |
| The panting cattle in the river stand | E |
| Seeking the coolness which its wave scarce yields | D |
| It seems a Sabbath thro' the drowsy land | E |
| So hush'd is all beneath the Summer's spell | F |
| I pause and listen for some faint church bell | F |
| - | |
| The leaves are motionless the song bird's mute | G |
| The very air seems somnolent and sick | H |
| The spreading branches with o'er ripen'd fruit | G |
| Show in the sunshine all their clusters thick | H |
| While now and then a mellow apple falls | I |
| With a dull sound within the orchard's walls | I |
| - | |
| The sky has but one solitary cloud | J |
| Like a dark island in a sea of light | K |
| The parching furrows 'twixt the corn rows ploughed | J |
| Seem fairly dancing in my dazzled sight | K |
| While over yonder road a dusty haze | L |
| Grows reddish purple in the sultry blaze | L |
