Sir Walter Raleigh Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC ADADEFGG

Whether in velvet white slashed and be pearledA
And rich in knots of clustering gems a glowB
Or in his rusted armor he unfurledA
St George's Cross by Oronoko's flowB
He was a man to note right well as oneC
Who shot his arrows straightway at the sunC
-
Dark was his hair his beard all crisp and curledA
And narrow lidded were his piercing eyesD
Anhungered in their glances for a worldA
That he might win by daring enterpriseD
Explorer soldier scholar poet heE
Not only wrote but acted historieF
And that great Captain of our Saxon stockG
Took his last slumber on the ghastly blockG
