Arms And The Man. - The South In The Union Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDEFEFD GGHIHIJDJDKBBK LLKKMMAAHNONHN

An ancient Chronicle has toldA
That in the famous days of oldA
In Antioch under groundB
The self same lance was foundB
Unbitten by corrosive rustC
The lance the Roman soldier thrustC
In CHRIST'S bare side upon the TreeD
And that it broughtE
A mighty spellF
To those who foughtE
The InfidelF
And mighty victoryD
-
And so this dayG
To you I sayG
Speaking for millions of true Southern menH
In words that have no undertowI
I say and say agenH
Come weal or woeI
Should this Republic ever fightJ
By land or seaD
For present law or ancient rightJ
The South will beD
As was that lanceK
Albeit not foundB
Hid under groundB
But in the forefront of the first advanceK
-
'Twill fly a pennon fairL
As ever kissed the airL
On it for every glanceK
Shall blaze majestic FranceK
Blent with our Hero's nameM
In everlasting flameM
And written fair in goldA
This legend on its foldA
Give us back the ties of YorktownH
Perish all the modern hatesN
Let us stand together brothersO
In defiance of the FatesN
FOR THE SAFETY OF THE UNIONH
IS THE SAFETY OF THE STATESN
