Arms And The Man. - The Continentals Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDEFFGGHHIIJJKK LL

In hunting shirts or faded blue and buffA
And many clad in simple rustic stuffA
Their ensigns torn but held by Freedom's handB
In long drawn lines the Continentals standB
To them precision if not martial graceC
Each heart triumphant but composed each faceC
Well taught in military arts by brave SteubenD
With port of soldiers majesty of menE
All fathers of their Country like a wallF
They stand at rest to see the curtain fallF
Well taught were they by one who learned War's tradeG
From Frederick whom not Ruin's self dismayedG
Well taught by one who never lost the heatH
Caught on an anvil where all Europe beatH
Beat in a storm of blows with might and mainI
But on that Prussian anvil beat in vainI
And to the gallant race of Steuben's nameJ
That long has held close intercourse with FameJ
This great Republic bows its lofty crestK
And folds his kinsmen to her ample breastK
At fray or festival on march or haltL
Von Steuben always far above the saltL
