A King's Gratitude Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACC DEDEFGFG

Plain men have fitful moods and so have KingsA
For Kings are only men and often madeB
Of clay as common as e'er stained a spadeB
But when the great are moody then the stringsA
Of gilded harps are smitten and their strainsC
Are soft and soothing as the Summer rainsC
-
And Saul was taken by an evil moodD
He felt within himself his spirit faintE
In vain he tossed upon his couch and wooedD
Refreshing slumbers Sleep knows no constraintE
Then David came his physic and adviceF
All in a harp and cleared the mind of SaulG
And Saul thereafter launched his javelin twiceF
To nail the harper to the palace wallG
