Fishermen Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLM NOPQKR STULV

When three he fished these lakesA
Curled sleeping on a lip of rockB
Crib blankets tucked from ants and fishbone fliesC
Twitching as the strike of bass and snarling reelD
Uncoiled my shouts not quitE
Till he jerked blinking up on all foursF
Swaying with the winking leavesG
Strong awake he shook his cane pole like a spoonH
And dipped among the wagging perchI
Till tired he drew his silver rubber bladeJ
And poked the winding fins that tugged our stringK
Or sprayed the dimpling minnows with his plastic gunL
Or rainstruck squirmed to my armpit in the ponchoM
-
Then years uncurled him thinned him hardN
Now far he cast his line into the wrinkled blueO
And easy toes a rock reel on his thighP
Till bone and crank cry out the strikeQ
He takes with manchild chuckles cunningK
In his play of zigzag line and plunging silverR
-
Now fishing far from me he strides through rain shouldersS
A spiny ridge of pines and disappearsT
Near lakes that cannot be while I must chooseU
To go or stay bring blanket blade and gunL
Or stand a fishermanV
