The Rose Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDE FGFG HIHI JKJK

The Rose was given to man for thisA
He sudden seeing it in later yearsB
Should swift remember Love's first lingering kissA
And Grief's last lingering tearsC
Or being blind should feel its yearning soulD
Knit all its piercing perfume round his ownE
Till he should see on memory's ample scrollD
All roses he had knownE
-
Or being hard perchance his finger tipsF
Careless might touch the satin of its cupG
And he should feel a dead babe's budding lipsF
To his lips lifted upG
-
Or being deaf and smitten with its starH
Should on a sudden almost hear a larkI
Rush singing up the nightingale afarH
Sing through the dew bright darkI
-
Or sorrow lost in paths that round and roundJ
Circle old graves its keen and vital breathK
Should call to him within the yew's bleak boundJ
Of Life and not of DeathK
