The Burgomeister's Well Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDAEA FGHGFIJK LMNMOPQP RSTTUFFF TTITFVFVFMTM

A peaceful spot a little streetA
So still between the double roarB
Of sea and city that it seemedC
A rest in music set beforeB
Some clashing chords vibrating yetD
With hurried measures fast and sweetA
For so the harsh chords of the townE
And so the ocean's rythmic beatA
-
A little street with linden treesF
So thickly set the belfry's faceG
Was leaf veiled while above them piercedH
Four slender spires flamboyant graceG
Old porches carven when the treesF
Were seedlings yellow in the sunI
Five hundred years ago that brightJ
Upon the quaint old city shoneK
-
A fountain prim and richly cutL
In ruddy granite carved to tellM
How a good burgomeister rear'dN
The stone above the people's wellM
A sea horse from his nostrils blewO
Two silver threads a dragon's lipP
Dropp'd di'monds and a giant handQ
Held high an urn on finger tipP
-
'Twas there I met my little maidR
There saw her flaxen tresses firstS
She filled the cup for one who lean'dT
A soldier crippl'd and athirstT
Against the basin's carven rimU
Her dear small hand's white lovelinessF
Was pinkly flush'd the gay bright dropsF
Plash'd on her brow and silken dressF
-
I took the flagon from her handT
Too small dear hand for such a weightT
From cobweb weft and woof is spunI
The tapestry of Life and FateT
The linden trees had gilded budsF
The dove wheeled high on joyous wingV
When on that darling hand of hersF
I slipped the glimmer of a ringV
Ah golden heart and golden locksF
Ye wove so sweet so sure a spellM
That quiet day I saw her firstT
Beside the Burgomeister's WellM
