Songs For The Soldiers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOMPQRS TUVI

IF songs be sung let minstrels strike their harpsA
To large and joyous strains all thunder wingedB
To beat along vast shores Ay let their notesC
Wild into eagles soaring toward the sunD
And voiced like bugles bursting through the dawnE
When armies leap to life Give them such breastsF
As hold immortal fires and they shall flyG
Swept with our little sphere through all the changeH
That waits a whirling worldI
Joy's an immortalJ
She hath a fiery fibre in her fleshK
That will not droop or die so let her chantL
The p ans of the dead where holy GriefM
Hath trembling thrust the feeble mist asideN
That veils her dead and in the wondrous claspO
Of re possession ceases to be GriefM
Joy's ample voice shall still roll over allP
And chronicle the heroes to young heartsQ
Who knew them notR
There's glory on the swordS
That keeps its scabbard sleep unless the foeT
Beat at the wall then freely leaps to lightU
And thrusts to keep the sacred towers of HomeV
And the dear lines that map the nation out upon the worldI
