Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFCGH IJFKL BMNOH PQARS TUVVW XYAZ U

too many moles in the grainA
pollute the taste of the mealB
nothing wholesome remainsC
nothing healthy survivesD
-
but the greater tragedyE
is the farmer who ruins his own harvestF
who mixes poison with the grainsC
meant for brothers friends companionsG
a banquet turned to a burialH
-
and Naija bleedsI
every dawn breaks with another nameJ
another cry swallowed by dustF
another family counting shadowsK
instead of childrenL
-
how does a nation healB
when the granary is corruptedM
when the watchmen trade their lamps for coinsN
when the very meal meant to nourishO
becomes the blood of its peopleH
-
how do we riseP
when the ones called to protectQ
become moles in the grainA
worms in the woodR
poison in the potS
-
stillT
somewhere beneath this wounded soilU
the earth cries in sorrow atV
embrace of too many victims thatV
the seeds in it forgot how to growW
-
yet somewhere in this forlorn farmX
a seed of mercy waitsY
for honest hands clean rainA
and a dawn that no longer tastes of fearZ
