Walking The Dog Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEF GHIJEE KLMNMO PEQERS

Two universes mosey down the streetA
Connected by love and a leash and nothing elseB
Mostly I look at lamplight through the leavesC
While he mooches along with tail up and snout downD
Getting a secret knowledge through the noseE
Almost entirely hidden from my sightF
-
We stand while he's enraptured by a bushG
Till I can't stand our standing any moreH
And haul him off for our relationshipI
Is patience balancing to this side tugJ
And that side drag a pair of symbiontsE
Contented not to think each other's thoughtsE
-
What else we have in common's what he taughtK
Our interest in shit We know its every stateL
From steaming fresh through stink to nature's wayM
Of sluicing it downstreet dissolved in rainN
Or drying it to dust that blows awayM
We move along the street inspecting shitO
-
His sense of it is keener far than mineP
And only when he finds the place preciseE
He signifies by sniffing urgentlyQ
And circles thrice about and squats and shitsE
Whereon we both with dignity walk homeR
And just to show who's master I write the poemS
