The War In The Air Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCC DEFF GHII JKCC

For a saving grace we didn't see our deadA
Who rarely bothered coming home to dieB
But simply stayed away out thereC
In the clean war the war in the airC
-
Seldom the ghosts come back bearing their talesD
Of hitting the earth the incompressible seaE
But stayed up there in the relative windF
Shades fading in the mindF
-
Who had no graves but only epitaphsG
Where never so many spoke for never so fewH
Per ardua said the partisans of MarsI
Per aspera to the starsI
-
That was the good war the war we wonJ
As if there was no death for goodness's sakeK
With the help of the losers we left out thereC
In the air in the empty airC
