Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFA GHCIJKL| Late in November on a single night | A |
| Not even near to freezing the ginkgo trees | B |
| That stand along the walk dropp all their leaves | C |
| In one consent and neither to rain nor to wind | D |
| But as though to time alone the golden and green | E |
| Leaves litter the lawn today that yesterday | F |
| Had spread aloft their fluttering fans of light | A |
| - | |
| What signal from the stars What senses took it in | G |
| What in those wooden motives so decided | H |
| To strike their leaves to down their leaves | C |
| Rebellion or surrender and if this | I |
| Can happen thus what race shall be exempt | J |
| What use to learn the lessons taught by time | K |
| If a star at any time may tell us Now | L |
