Style Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGAHAIJ KLCMNOAP| Flaubert wanted to write a novel | A |
| About nothing It was to have no subject | B |
| And be sustained upon the style alone | C |
| Like the Holy Ghost cruising above | D |
| The abyss or like the little animals | E |
| In Disney cartoons who stand upon a branch | F |
| That breaks but do not fall | G |
| Till they look down He never wrote that novel | A |
| And neither did he write another one | H |
| That would have been called La Spirale | A |
| Wherein the hero's fortunes were to rise | I |
| In dreams while his walking life disintegrated | J |
| - | |
| Even so for these two books | K |
| We thank the master They can be read | L |
| With difficulty in the spirit alone | C |
| Are not so wholly lost as certain works | M |
| Burned at Alexandria flooded at Florence | N |
| And are never taught at universities | O |
| Moreover they are not deformed by style | A |
| That fire that eats what it illuminates | P |
