Carving A Name Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFCG HIJI KFLF MNON

I wrote my name upon the sandA
And trusted it would stand for ayeB
But soon alas the refluent seaC
Had washed my feeble lines awayD
-
I carved my name upon the woodE
And after years returned againF
I missed the shadow of the treeC
That stretched of old upon the plainG
-
To solid marble next my nameH
I gave as a perpetual trustI
An earthquake rent it to its baseJ
And now it lies o'erlaid with dustI
-
All these have failed In wiser moodK
I turn and ask myself What thenF
If I would have my name endureL
I'll write it on the hearts of menF
-
In characters of living lightM
Of kindly deeds and actions wroughtN
And these beyond the touch of timeO
Shall live immortal as my thoughtN
