O Hymen kingA
-
Hymen O Hymen kingA
what bitter thing is thisB
what shaft tearing my heartC
what scar what light what fireD
searing my eye balls and my eyes with flameE
nameless O spoken nameE
king lord speak blameless HymenF
-
Why do you blind my eyesG
why do you dart and pulseH
till all the dark is homeI
then find my soulJ
and ruthless draw it backK
scaling the scalelessH
opening the darkL
speak nameless power and mightM
when will you leave me quiteM
when will you break my wingsH
or leave them utterly freeN
to scale heaven endlesslyN
-
A bitter broken thingA
my heart O Hymen lordO
yet neither drought nor swordO
baffles men quiteM
why must they feign to fearP
my virgin glanceH
feigned utterly or realQ
why do they shrinkR
my trance frightens themS
breaks the danceH
empties the market placeH
if I but pass they fallT
back franticallyN
must always people mockU
unless they shrink and reelQ
as in the templeV
at your uttered willW
-
O Hymen kingA
lord greatest power mightM
look for my face is darkL
burnt with your lightM
your fire O Hymen lordO
is there none leftX
can equal meN
in ecstasy desireD
is there none leftX
can bear with meN
the kiss of your white fireD
is there not oneF
Phrygian or frenzied GreekY
poet song swept or bardZ
one meet to take from meN
this bitter power of songA2
one fit to speak HymenF
your praises lordO
-
May I not wedB2
as you have wedB2
may it not break beautyN
from out my hands my head my feetC2
may Love not lie beside meN
till his heatC2
burn me to ashD2
may he not comfort me thenE2
spent of all that fire and heatC2
still ashen white and coolF2
as the wet laurelsH
white before your feetC2
step on the mountain slopeG2
before your fiery handH2
lift up the mantleV
covering flower and landH2
as a man liftsH
O Hymen from his brideI2
cowering with woman eyes the veilJ2
O Hymen lord be kindK2
