The Dawning Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEEFFEGHHIDDEEE EEJJKKAGLLMMNNOOPPQQ RRSBTTAh what time wilt Thou come when shall that cry | A |
'The bridegroom's coming ' fill the sky | A |
Shall it in the evening run | B |
When our words and works are dome | C |
Or will Thy all surprising light | D |
Break at midnight | D |
When either sleep or some dark pleasure | E |
Possesseth mad man without measure | E |
Or shall these early fragrant hours | F |
Unlock Thy bowers | F |
And with their blush of light descry | E |
Thy locks crowned with eternity | G |
Indeed it is the only time | H |
That with Thy glory doth best chime | H |
Full hymns doth yield | I |
The whole creation shakes off night | D |
And for Thy shadow looks the light | D |
Stars now vanish without number | E |
The pursy clouds disband and scatter | E |
All expect some sudden matter | E |
Not one beam triumphs but from far | E |
That morning star | E |
Oh at what time soever Thou | J |
Unknown to us the heavens wilt bow | J |
And with Thy angels in the van | K |
Descend to judge poor careless man | K |
Grant I may not like puddle lie | A |
In a corrupt security | G |
Where if a traveler water crave | L |
He finds it dead and in a grave | L |
But as this restless vocal spring | M |
All day and night doth run and sing | M |
And though here born yet is acquainted | N |
Elsewhere and flowing keeps untainted | N |
So let me all my busy age | O |
In Thy free services engage | O |
And though while here of force I must | P |
Have commerce sometimes with poor dust | P |
And in my flesh though vile and low | Q |
As this doth in her channel flow | Q |
Yet let my course my aim my love | R |
And chief acquaintance be above | R |
So when that day and hour shall come | S |
In which Thyself will be the sun | B |
Thou'lt find me dressed and on my way | T |
Watching the break of Thy great Day | T |
