The Dawning Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEEFFEGHHIDDEEE EEJJKKAGLLMMNNOOPPQQ RRSBTT

Ah what time wilt Thou come when shall that cryA
'The bridegroom's coming ' fill the skyA
Shall it in the evening runB
When our words and works are domeC
Or will Thy all surprising lightD
Break at midnightD
When either sleep or some dark pleasureE
Possesseth mad man without measureE
Or shall these early fragrant hoursF
Unlock Thy bowersF
And with their blush of light descryE
Thy locks crowned with eternityG
Indeed it is the only timeH
That with Thy glory doth best chimeH
Full hymns doth yieldI
The whole creation shakes off nightD
And for Thy shadow looks the lightD
Stars now vanish without numberE
The pursy clouds disband and scatterE
All expect some sudden matterE
Not one beam triumphs but from farE
That morning starE
Oh at what time soever ThouJ
Unknown to us the heavens wilt bowJ
And with Thy angels in the vanK
Descend to judge poor careless manK
Grant I may not like puddle lieA
In a corrupt securityG
Where if a traveler water craveL
He finds it dead and in a graveL
But as this restless vocal springM
All day and night doth run and singM
And though here born yet is acquaintedN
Elsewhere and flowing keeps untaintedN
So let me all my busy ageO
In Thy free services engageO
And though while here of force I mustP
Have commerce sometimes with poor dustP
And in my flesh though vile and lowQ
As this doth in her channel flowQ
Yet let my course my aim my loveR
And chief acquaintance be aboveR
So when that day and hour shall comeS
In which Thyself will be the sunB
Thou'lt find me dressed and on my wayT
Watching the break of Thy great DayT
