The Daughter Of Herodias Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDE FGHG IJIJ DKDL

Matthew xivA
-
Vain sinful art who first did fitB
Thy lewd loathed motions unto soundsC
And made grave music like wild witB
Err in loose airs beyond her boundsC
-
What fires hath he heaped on his headD
Since to his sins as needs it mustE
His art adds still though he be deadD
New fresh accounts of blood and lustE
-
Leave then young sorceress the iceF
Will those coy spirits cast asleepG
Which teach thee now to please his eyesH
Who doth thy loathsome mother keepG
-
But thou hast pleased so well he swearsI
And gratifies thy sin with vowsJ
His shameless lust in public wearsI
And to thy soft arts strongly bowsJ
-
Skilful enchantress and true bredD
Who out of evil can bring forth goodK
Thy mother's nets in thee were spreadD
She tempts to incest thou to bloodL
