Rules And Lessons Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHIBJH KK BLBLMM NOPOQQ

When first thine eyes unveil give thy soul leaveA
To do the like our bodies but forerunB
The spirit's duty True hearts spread and heaveA
Unto their God as flowers do to the sunB
Give Him thy first thoughts then so shalt thou keepC
Him company all day and in Him sleepC
-
Yet never sleep the sun up Prayer shouldD
Dawn with the day There are set awful hoursE
'Twixt Heaven and us The manna was not goodD
After sunrising far day sullies flowersE
Rise to prevent the sun sleep doth sin's glutF
And Heaven's gate opens when this world's shutF
-
Walk with thy fellow creatures note the hushG
And whispers amongst them There's not a springH
Or leaf but hath his morning hymn each bushI
And oak doth knowB
I AMJ
Canst thou not singH
-
O leave thy cares and follies go this wayK
And thou art sure to prosper all the dayK
-
To heighten thy devotions and keep lowB
All mutinous thoughts what business e'er thou hastL
Observe God in his works how fountains flowB
Birds sing beasts feed fish leap and th' earth stands fastL
Above are restless motions running lightsM
Vast circling azure giddy clouds days nightsM
-
When seasons change then lay before thine eyesN
His wondrous method mark the various scenesO
In Heaven hail thunder rainbows snow and iceP
Calms tempests light and darkness by his meansO
Thou canst not miss his praise each tree herb flowerQ
Are shadows of his wisdom and his powerQ
