Friends Departed Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDF GHGH GIGI DJDJ KLML NONO PQPC RGRG STST

They are all gone into the world of lightA
And I alone sit ling'ring hereB
Their very memory is fair and brightA
And my sad thoughts doth clearC
-
It glows and glitters in my cloudy breastD
Like stars upon some gloomy groveE
Or those faint beams in which this hill is drestD
After the sun's removeF
-
I see them walking in an air of gloryG
Whose light doth trample on my daysH
My days which are at best but dull and hoaryG
Mere glimmering and decaysH
-
O holy Hope and high HumilityG
High as the heavens aboveI
These are your walks and you have show'd them meG
To kindle my cold loveI
-
Dear beauteous Death the jewel of the JustD
Shining nowhere but in the darkJ
What mysteries do lie beyond thy dustD
Could man outlook that markJ
-
He that hath found some fledg'd bird's nest may knowK
At first sight if the bird be flownL
But what fair well or grove he sings in nowM
That is to him unknownL
-
And yet as Angels in some brighter dreamsN
Call to the soul when man doth sleepO
So some strange thoughts transcend our wonted themesN
And into glory peepO
-
If a star were confin'd into a tombP
Her captive flames must needs burn thereQ
But when the hand that lock'd her up gives roomP
She'll shine through all the sphereC
-
O Father of eternal life and allR
Created glories under TheeG
Resume Thy spirit from this world of thrallR
Into true libertyG
-
Either disperse these mists which blot and fillS
My perspective still as they passT
Or else remove me hence unto that hillS
Where I shall need no glassT
