Christ's Nativity Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDBBEF GGHHII JJKLMM NNOOPP

Awake glad heart get up and singA
It is the birth day of thy KingA
Awake awakeB
The Sun doth shakeB
Light from his locks and all the wayC
Breathing perfumes doth spice the dayC
-
Awake awake hark how th' wood ringsD
Winds whisper and the busy springsD
A concert makeB
Awake awakeB
Man is their high priest and should riseE
To offer up the sacrificeF
-
I would I were some bird or starG
Flutt'ring in woods or lifted farG
Above this innH
And road of sinH
Then either star or bird should beI
Shining or singing still to theeI
-
I would I had in my best partJ
Fit rooms for thee or that my heartJ
Were so clean asK
Thy manger wasL
But I am all filth and obsceneM
Yet if thou wilt thou canst make cleanM
-
Sweet Jesu will then Let no moreN
This leper haunt and soil thy doorN
Cure him ease himO
O release himO
And let once more by mystic birthP
The Lord of life be born in earthP
