The Stream Is Flowing From The West Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHII JKJKLL

The stream is flowing from the westA
As if it poured from yonder skiesB
It wears upon its rippling breastA
The sunset's golden dyesB
And bearing onward to the seaC
'T will clasp the isle that holdeth theeC
-
I dip my hand within the waveD
Ah how impressionless and coldE
I touch it with my lip and laveD
My forehead in the goldE
It is a trivial thought but sweetF
Perhaps the wave will kiss thy feetF
-
Alas I leave no trace behindG
As little on the senseless streamH
As on thy heart or on thy mindG
Which was the simpler dreamH
To win that warm wild love of thineI
Or make the water whisper mineI
-
Dear stream some moons must wax and waneJ
Ere I again shall cross thy tideK
And then perhaps a viewless chainJ
Will drag me to her sideK
To love with all my spirit's scopeL
To wish do everything but hopeL
