The Stream Is Flowing From The West Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHII JKJKLLThe stream is flowing from the west | A |
As if it poured from yonder skies | B |
It wears upon its rippling breast | A |
The sunset's golden dyes | B |
And bearing onward to the sea | C |
'T will clasp the isle that holdeth thee | C |
- | |
I dip my hand within the wave | D |
Ah how impressionless and cold | E |
I touch it with my lip and lave | D |
My forehead in the gold | E |
It is a trivial thought but sweet | F |
Perhaps the wave will kiss thy feet | F |
- | |
Alas I leave no trace behind | G |
As little on the senseless stream | H |
As on thy heart or on thy mind | G |
Which was the simpler dream | H |
To win that warm wild love of thine | I |
Or make the water whisper mine | I |
- | |
Dear stream some moons must wax and wane | J |
Ere I again shall cross thy tide | K |
And then perhaps a viewless chain | J |
Will drag me to her side | K |
To love with all my spirit's scope | L |
To wish do everything but hope | L |
