Lily lady of the gardenA
Let me press my lip to thineB
Love must tell its story LilyC
Listen thou to mineB
-
Two I choose to know the secretD
Thee and yonder wordless fluteE
Dragons watch me tender LilyC
And thou must be muteE
-
There's a maiden and her name isF
Hist was that a rose leaf fellG
See the rose is listening LilyC
And the rose may tellG
-
Lily browed and lily heartedH
She is very dear to meC
Lovely yes if being lovelyC
Is resembling theeC
-
Six to half a score of summersI
Make the sweetest of the teensJ
Not too young to guess dear LilyC
What a lover meansJ
-
Laughing girl and thoughtful womanA
I am puzzled how to wooK
Shall I praise or pique her LilyC
Tell me what to doK
-
Silly lover if thy LilyC
Like her sister lilies beC
Thou must woo if thou wouldst wear herL
With a simple pleaC
-
Love's the lover's only magicM
Truth the very subtlest artN
Love that feigns and lips that flatterL
Win no modest heartN
-
Like the dewdrop in my bosomO
Be thy guileless language youthP
Falsehood buyeth falsehood onlyC
Truth must purchase truthP
-
As thou talkest at the firesideQ
With the little children byR
As thou prayest in the darknessS
When thy God is nighR
-
With a speech as chaste and gentleT
And such meanings as becomeO
Ear of child or ear of angelT
Speak or be thou dumbO
-
Woo her thus and she shall give theeC
Of her heart the sinless wholeU
All the girl within her bosomO
And her woman's soulU
