| Thee face to face upon thy breezy hills | B |
| And boldly where thy inmost bowers are set | A |
| Gazed on thee naked in thy mountain rills | B |
| When first I felt thy breath upon my brow | C |
| Tears of strange ecstasy gushed out like rain | D |
| And with a longing passionate as vain | D |
| I strove to clasp thee But I know not how | C |
| Always before me didst thou seem to glide | E |
| And often from one sunny mountain side | E |
| Upon the next bright peak I saw thee kneel | F |
| And heard thy voice upon the billowy blast | G |
| But climbing only reached that shrine to feel | F |
| The shadow of a Presence which had passed | G |
