Song Composed For Washington's Birthday Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EBEB FGFG

A hundred years and more agoA
A little child was bornB
To day with pomp of martial showA
We hail his natal mornB
-
Who guessed as that poor infant weptC
Upon a woman's kneeD
A nation from the centuries steptC
As weak and frail as heD
-
Who saw the future on his browE
Upon that happy mornB
We are a mighty nation nowE
Because that child was bornB
-
To him and to his spirit's scopeF
Besides a glorious homeG
We owe that what we have and hopeF
Are more than Greece and RomeG
