The Passing Of Scotty Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE FBFBGHGH IJIJKLKL MNMNOPOQ RLRL

WE THROW us down on the dusty plainA
When the gold has gone from the westB
But we rise and tramp on the track againC
For we re tired too tired to restB
Darker and denser the shadows fallD
That are cramping each aching browE
Scotty the Wrinkler you ve solved it allD
Give us a wrinkle nowE
-
But no one lieth so still in deathF
As the rover who never could restB
And he s free of thought as he s free of breathF
And his hands are crossed on his breastB
You have earned your rest you brave old trampG
As I hope in the end we willH
Ah me Twas a long long way to campG
Since the days when they called you PhilH
-
What have they done with your quaint old soulI
Now they have passed you throughJ
But we can t but think as our swags we rollI
That it s right old man with youJ
You learned some truth in the storm and strifeK
Of the outcast battler s waysL
And you left some light in the vagabond s lifeK
Ere you vanished beyond the hazeL
-
One by one in the far aheadM
In the smothering haze of droughtN
Where hearts are loyal and hopes are deadM
The forms of our mates fade outN
Tis a distant goal and a weary loadO
But we follow the Wrinkler homeP
As staggering into the short straight roadO
From the blind branch tracks we comeQ
-
We leave our mark and we play our partR
In the nation s pregnant daysL
And we find a place in the Bushman s heartR
Ere we vanish beyond the hazeL
