An Elegy Upon The Death Of Mr. Edward Holt Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEDFFGGEEHHDD IIJJDDIIKKEH

VVhether thy Fathers or diseases rageA
More mortal prov'd to thy unhappy ageA
Our sorrow needs not question since the firstB
Is known for length and sharpness much the worstB
Thy Feaver yet was kind which the ninth dayC
For thy misfortunes made an easie wayC
When th' other barbarous and Hectick fitD
In nineteen winters did not intermitD
I therefore vainly now not ask thee whyE
Thou didst so soon in thy Youths mid way dyD
But in my sence the greater wonder makeF
Thy long oppressed heart no sooner brakeF
Of force must the neglected blossom fallG
When the tough root becomes unnaturallG
And to his branches doth that sap denyE
Which them with life and verdure should supplyE
For Parents shame let it forgotten beH
And may the sad example die with theeH
It is not now thy grieved friends intentD
To render thee dull Pities argumentD
Thou hast a bolder title unto fameI
And at Edge Hill thou didst make good the claimeI
When in thy Royal Masters Cause and WarreJ
Thy ventur'd life brought off a noble skarreJ
Nor did thy faithful services desistD
Till death untimely strook thee from the ListD
Though in that prouder vault then which doth tombI
Thy ancestors thy body find not roomI
Thine own deserts have purchas'd thee a placeK
Which more renowned is then all thy raceK
For in this earth thou dost ennobled lyE
With marks of Valour and of LoyaltyH
