The Ivy On The Wall Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIHJKJL MNONPQBQ

THE VERDANT ivy clings aroundA
Yon moss be mantled wallB
As if it sought to hide the stonesC
That crumbling soon must fallB
That relic of a bygone ageD
Now tottering to decayE
Has but one friend the ivy leftF
The rest have passed awayE
-
The fairy flowers that once did bloomG
And smile beneath its shadeH
They lingered till the autumn cameI
And autumn saw them fadeH
The emerald leaves that blushed betweenJ
The winds away have blownK
But yet to cheer the mournful sceneJ
The ivy liveth onL
-
Thus heavenly hope will still surviveM
When earthly joys have fledN
And all the flow ry dreams of youthO
Lie withering and deadN
When Winter comes it twines itselfP
Around the human heartQ
And like the ivy on the wallB
Will ne er from thence departQ
