The Earth Laments For Day Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDB EBEBFB GHIJKL MNONPN QRQRSB TOGOEO

THERE S music wafting on the airA
The evening winds are sighingB
Among the trees and yonder streamC
Is mournfully replyingB
Lamenting loud the sunny lightD
That in the west is dyingB
-
The moon is rising o er the hillE
Her slanting rays are creepingB
Where Nature lies profoundly stillE
In happy quiet sleepingB
And resting on her face they ll findF
The earth is wet with weepingB
-
She mourneth for the lovely dayG
Now deep in darkness shadedH
She sheds the dewy tear becauseI
Of morning s mantle fadedJ
She misses from her breast the garbK
In which the moon array d itL
-
The evening queen will strive in vainM
To break the spell which bound herN
A million stars can never throwO
Departed warmth around herN
They all must pass away and leaveP
The earth as they had found herN
-
But why should gentle Nature weepQ
That night has overtakenR
The wearied world that needed sleepQ
Refreshed to re awakenR
So richer light might burst aroundS
The gloomy shadows breakingB
-
Oh can she not from yonder skyT
That gleams above her borrowO
A single ray or find a wayG
To check the tear of sorrowO
A beam of hope would last her tillE
The dawning of to morrowO
