A MORNING crowns the Western hillA
A day begins to reignB
A sun awakes o er distant seasC
Shall never sleep againD
The world is growing oldE
And men are waxing wiseF
A mist has cleared a something fallsG
Like scales from off their eyesF
-
Too long the Dark of IgnoranceH
Has brooded on their wayI
Too long Oppression s stood beforeJ
Excluding light of dayI
But now they ve found the trackK
And now they ve seen the dawnL
A beacon lamp is pointing onM
Where stronger glows the mornN
-
Since Adam lived the mighty onesO
Have ever ruled the weakP
Since Noah s flood the fettered slaveQ
Has seldom dared to speakP
Tis time a voice was heardR
Tis time a voice was spokenS
So in the chain of tyrannyT
A link or two be brokenS
-
A tiny rill will swell a streamU
A spark will cause a flameV
And one man s burning eloquenceH
Has help d to do the sameV
And he will persevereW
And soon that blaze must spreadX
Till to the corners of the earthY
Reflecting beams are shedX
-
The few will try to beat it downZ
But can they stop the floodA2
Bind up the pinions of the lightB2
Or check the will of GodC2
And is it not His willA
That deeply injured RightB2
Should overthrow the iron ruleD2
And reign instead of MightB2
