Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEF DADA GHGH DIDI DJDJ KDKD DIDI LMLM NONO PDPD

Who cometh from fields of the southA
With raiment of weeping and woeB
And a cry of the heart in her mouthA
And a step that is muffled and slowB
Her paths are the paths of the sunC
Her house is a beautiful lightD
But she boweth her head and is oneC
With the daughters of dolour and nightD
-
She is fairer than flowers of loveE
She is fiercer than wind driven flameF
And God from His thunders aboveE
Hath smitten the soul of her shameF
-
She saith to the bloody one curstD
With the fever of evil she saithA
My sorrow shall strangle thee firstD
With an agony wilder than deathA
-
My sorrow shall hack at thy lifeG
Thou shalt wrestle with wraiths of thy sinH
And sleep on a pillow of strifeG
With demons without and withinH
-
She whispers He came to the landD
A lord and a lover of meI
A son of the waves with a handD
As fearless and frank as the seaI
-
On the shores of the stranger he stoodD
With the sweetness of youth on his faceJ
Till there started a fiend from the woodD
Who stabbed at the peace of the placeJ
-
Because of the dastardly thingK
Thou hast done in the sight of the dayD
All horrors that sicken and stingK
Shall make thee for ever their preyD
-
Because of the beautiful trustD
Destroyed by a devil like theeI
Thy bed shall be low in the dustD
And my heel as a shackle shall beI
-
Because and she mutters it deepL
Who curseth the coward in chainsM
Thou hast stricken and murdered our sleepL
Thy sleep shall be perished with painsM
-
Thy sleep shall be broken and sharpN
And filled with fierce spasms and dreamsO
And shadow shall haunt thee and harpN
On hellish and horrible themesO
-
I will set my right hand on thy neckP
And my foot on thy body nor bateD
Till thy name shall become as a wreckP
And a byword for hisses and hateD
